Our Social Responsibility

At Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, two words best describe our philosophy for creating an inclusive and productive environment for guests, employees, vendors and shareholders: Pleasing People®!

Pleasing People® is so central to what we value, it’s our company mission statement. That’s it – Pleasing People®. Nothing more. Nothing less. Since the very first Cracker Barrel location opened back in 1969 in Lebanon, Tennessee, we’ve kept things pretty simple. At Cracker Barrel, Pleasing People® is all about mutual respect.

Our Guests

At Cracker Barrel, our first interest is to make sure that everyone who walks in our front door gets a warm welcome. After that we work hard to provide our guests with a good meal at a fair price, an enjoyable browse through our country store, friendly guest service and a desire to treat all folks with dignity and respect. Our Employees

Our employees are the lifeblood of our business. It’s these employees who help us achieve our mission of Pleasing People®. We want employees who demonstrate mutual respect for all persons regardless of their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, age or disability.

At Cracker Barrel, we strive to provide our employees with the tools, information and environment needed to give our guests the great service they’ve come to expect from us. We’re committed to recognizing the talents and job performance of all employees, and we offer training and advancement programs for hourly and management employees throughout the company. All of our training programs include the company’s expectations for strict adherence to our Pleasing People® mission. We give our leaders the power to back up our commitment to that mission and to our Equal Opportunity Statement. We also provide an Open Door Policy for all employees.

Our Vendors

At Cracker Barrel, we recognize that our guests have come to rely on us for excellent quality, so we rely on our vendors for the same. Whether supplying us with ingredients to prepare delicious meals or with supplies to keep our restaurants clean, we look for vendors who have the same high standards we do. It is our responsibility to treat our vendors with dignity and respect, and we expect the same from them. We negotiate agreements honestly, fairly and objectively. Vendors who meet Cracker Barrel’s purchasing requirements and high quality standards have the opportunity to build a relationship with us.

Our Shareholders

We feel that pleasing shareholders means that we work toward the long-term best interest of the company. Make no mistake, our goal as a company is to make a profit; however, how we go about making that profit is very important. We believe the best way to do this is by creating a balance in pleasing our guests, our employees, our vendors, and of course, the shareholders through the concept of mutual respect. Our Diverse Community

Cracker Barrel embraces the thought that we influence, and are influenced by, the various communities in which we operate: our guests, our employees, our local communities, our shareholders, and our vendors. We believe we have an obligation to do right by the communities in which we do business as best we can and operate within our culture of mutual respect. We provide support through the Cracker Barrel Foundation, specific Community Relations efforts, our in-school Rockin' Reader® program, several Employee Resource Groups, and our employee diversity education programs.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. Animal Welfare Principles

At Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, we pride ourselves on providing safe and high quality home-style meals to all of our guests. To accomplish that goal, we must ensure that we act in the best interests of all stakeholders; our employees, our guests, our suppliers and our shareholders.

Our mission is Pleasing People® and of primary concern in accomplishing that mission is food safety. To that end Cracker Barrel has established standards, specifications and food safety processes that ensure the delivery of safe food to each and every restaurant and guest. Cracker Barrel believes the proper treatment of animals is a part of those processes. Our goal is to ensure the welfare of animals used in Cracker Barrel’s supply chain while maintaining our high quality standards at the best possible cost.

Specifically:

  • Cracker Barrel complies with and requires that our suppliers comply with laws put forth by all federal and local regulatory agencies.
  • Cracker Barrel ensures and verifies through our internal compliance processes that our suppliers have established animal handling procedures to ensure that animal-friendly policies are followed.
    • In order to ensure the well-being of animals and ensure our suppliers execute proper procedures for the handling of animals, Cracker Barrel encourages our suppliers to comply with and gives preference to suppliers that meet or exceed animal welfare standards set forth by:

          - United Egg Producers

          - National Chicken Council

          - National Pork Council

          - National Beef Council/American Meat Institute

Moreover, Cracker Barrel includes in its criteria for selecting our suppliers the availability of “controlled atmosphere stunning” processes for poultry, gestation stall-free processes for pork, and cage-free production processes for eggs.
    • Cracker Barrel supports and encourages our suppliers to continue research that builds strong fact-based science processes to further the cause of animal welfare.

On an ongoing basis, Cracker Barrel will continue to stay abreast of the latest scientific development and technologies in animal welfare. We will continue to encourage our suppliers to lead the way in researching and adopting the best animal welfare practices in raising, handling and transporting of animals throughout the supply chain.
