Cracker Barrel presents scholarship to Jobs for Tennessee Graduates student

April 19, 2010

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® has awarded another scholarship to a student associated with the Jobs for Tennessee Graduates program. For the past five years, Cracker Barrel has supported the Tennessee Department of Education program with scholarships and by hosting an annual Career Day. To date, more than 500 students have attended the annual Career Day event.

This year's scholarship winner is Jiyar Hussein, a senior at Antioch High School who has already been accepted for enrollment at Trevecca Nazarene University. Jiyar will graduate with distinguished honors, and she’s accomplished this goal while being active in her school and community.

Jiyar is part of the school’s United Nations Club, yearbook staff and soccer team and her volunteer work includes time spent with the PENCIL Foundation, Second Harvest Food Bank, Hands On Nashville and the Angel Tree Program. With her scholarship, she plans to pursue a career in the hospitality field.

"Jobs for Tennessee Graduates has earned national recognition as a School-to-Career Program that achieves the highest graduation and success rates for high school seniors,” said Betsy Houston, Executive Director of Jobs For Tennessee Graduate. “We are so appreciative of Cracker Barrel for helping one of top seniors to pursue a career in the hospitality industry."

“Cracker Barrel recognizes the importance of investing in today’s graduates,” said Paul Seal, Director of Diversity Initiatives at Cracker Barrel. “With these scholarship opportunities, JTG students see Cracker Barrel as a career option. One of our recent scholarship winners now works at Cracker Barrel, and she’s doing a great job balancing her college studies with a part-time job.”
