A popular event during the convention is the annual Catfish and Blues Reception hosted by the Mississippi State Conference of the NAACP. This year, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® got involved by providing the catfish served at the reception. Cracker Barrel catfish comes from Mississippi catfish farms, so this event promoted a tasty home-grown product and Cracker Barrel’s partnership with the Mississippi State Conference.

Several hundred NAACP members attended the reception held in the historic district of Kansas City. In addition to great food and music, the evening included visits by NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous, National Board of Directors Chairman Roslyn M. Brock and Chairman Emeritus Julian Bond.

Prior to the reception, Cracker Barrel executives met with leaders of several state NAACP chapters. The meeting was another significant step in building positive and proactive partnerships with NAACP chapters in Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Texas.

“My colleagues and I enjoyed interacting with NAACP delegates from across the country,” said Paul Seal, Director of Diversity & Outreach at Cracker Barrel. “We appreciate Mississippi NAACP State President Derrick Johnson and his vision for seeing the potential for developing a strong connection between Cracker Barrel and the NAACP.”
