about us
Social Responsibility

At Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, two words best describe our philosophy for creating an inclusive and productive environment for guests, employees, vendors and shareholders: Pleasing People!

Pleasing People is so central to what we value, it’s our company mission statement. That’s it – Pleasing People. Nothing more. Nothing less. Since the very first Cracker Barrel location opened back in 1969 in Lebanon, Tennessee, we’ve kept things pretty simple. At Cracker Barrel, Pleasing People is all about mutual respect.

We believe that our success is based on our ability to live our mission statement every day. We work hard to ensure that we protect and promote our commitment to Pleasing People, and we have an Outreach function solely focused on doing just that. The Outreach function evaluates, enhances and promotes the company’s commitment to inclusion for guests, employees, and vendors. Outreach also helps company leaders develop guest, employee, vendor and community initiatives that improve company performance through diverse relationships.

We strive to ensure that every employee fully embraces the talent and innovation that comes from diverse persons who have many different perspectives. We believe this approach promotes good corporate citizenship. And we believe this is what good business is all about.

Our Guests

At Cracker Barrel, our first interest is to make sure that everyone who walks in our front door gets a warm welcome. After that we work hard to provide our guests with a good meal at a fair price, an enjoyable browse through our country store, friendly guest service and a desire to treat all folks with dignity and respect. Visit our Media Room to find out about recent service awards Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has received.

Our Employees

Our employees are the lifeblood of our business. It’s these employees who help us achieve our mission of Pleasing People. We want employees who share a common value of mutual respect for all persons regardless of their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, age or disability.

At Cracker Barrel, we strive to provide our employees with the tools, information and environment needed to give our guests the great service they’ve come to expect from us. We’re committed to recognizing the talents and job performance of all employees, and we offer training and advancement programs for hourly and management employees throughout the company. All of our training programs include the company’s expectations for strict adherence to our Pleasing People mission. We give our leaders the power to back up our commitment to that mission and to our Equal Opportunity Statement. We also provide an Open Door Policy for all employees.

Our Vendors

At Cracker Barrel, we recognize that our guests have come to rely on us for excellent quality, so we rely on our vendors for the same. Whether supplying us with chicken and potatoes or mops and buckets, we look for vendors who have the same high standards we do. It is our responsibility to treat our vendors with dignity and respect, and we expect the same from them. We negotiate agreements honestly, fairly and objectively. Vendors who meet Cracker Barrel’s purchasing requirements and high quality standards have the opportunity to build a relationship with us.

To ensure that we maintain an open, fair and consistent vendor environment, our Vendor Outreach Team meets regularly to review and improve vendor relations and performance. We also have a Vendor Relations section on our web site to improve communications with current and potential vendors.

Our Shareholders

We feel that pleasing shareholders means that we work toward the long-term best interest of the company. Make no mistake, our goal as a company is to make a profit; however, how we go about making that profit is very important. We believe the best way to do this is by creating a balance in pleasing our guests, our employees, our vendors, and of course, the shareholders through the concept of mutual respect. Our Community

The philosophy of doing good and giving back is at the heart of our Pleasing People mission. While we wish we could be involved in every positive community event, our commitment to our shareholders and our core values requires that we be highly selective. Our community outreach focuses on initiatives that advance the importance of heritage. Our involvement with heritage projects comes from the belief that remembering the positive aspects of our past is vital for a successful present and a prosperous future. Tied closely to that, we also seek initiatives that inspire youth to understand and embrace the value of strong work ethic and volunteerism.
