Sometimes, the folks at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® find an old invention that didnt quite take off as well as the inventor had hoped. That's the case with the Curry Flytrap, patent date 1916, manufactured in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Curry Flytrap had a triangular cage of galvanized steel covered with screening, and a food tray at the bottom. The idea was that flies would come in for a bite, then fly up, becoming trapped in the cage. There are a few reasons why this flytrap might not have been a success. First, it seems that no one had ever heard of it or seen anything quite like it. Moreover, glass bell jar flytraps were already quite popular. As it turns out, Cracker Barrel discovered whole cases of the flytraps in an abandoned store. And so we just might be the proud owners of nearly all the Curry Flytraps that were manufactured.
